Understanding Feline BMI

Feline Body Condition Score (BCS) is a 9-point scale that evaluates your cat's body fat. Unlike human BMI which uses calculations, cat BCS relies on visual and tactile assessment of fat coverage.

An ideal BCS (4-5/9) means your cat has a slight fat layer over the ribs, a visible waist when viewed from above, and a tucked abdomen when viewed from the side.

  • Measure meals: Use a kitchen scale for precise portions
  • High-protein diet: Cats need animal-based proteins
  • Interactive play: 10-15 minutes twice daily
  • Vet consultation: Rule out thyroid issues or diabetes
